Fushigi Mystery!I almost got broke because of the amount of animes I bought. Not that it's a lot but due to my tight budget, it nearly cost me a whole month's lunch. @.@ Luckily, my dad was understanding and gave me more allownace. (Or maybe because he pitied me because I pay for my phone bills and public transportation? Hmm...)
Which is a good thing cause I need to buy the rest of the
Air series. If possible, try to get the whole series rather than buying the episodes seperately. I'm stuck at episode 8 and let me tell you... I'm dying to know what's going to happen next! ;_; I heard that it's going to be sad...
But let me comment on the opening and theme of this series. I absolutely adore the opening theme of
Air 'Tori no shi', and believe it definitely suits the anime really well. But you know what's funny? The song kinda reminds me of the opening for
Onegai Twins 'Second Flight'. It's not the same! But it's rather similiar... in a way that I'm not sure.
Anyway, as I wait for the right time to finish this series and give a full comment, let me then give you my review about another anime I've watched...
Matantei Loki Ragnarok.Yeah, I'm pretty way back to only being able to watch this series now, since it did come out in 2003. But back then, I was still in the 'CCS only!' craze and had just gotten used to anime. Besides, I never had the money to buy it so... now I have! (Now do you understand why I'm broke? Lol!)
Overall, this series is really interesting. But I'm not sure if it's for everybody...
The story (based on Norse mythology) revolves around Loki, the God of mischief, who had been banished from his land, Asgard by the God Odin who also wants to kill Loki. Not only is Loki banished, but he is now stuck in the body of an 8-year-old! With him is Yamino, a man that helps around the house and has a thing for mail order. Together, they start a Detective Agency where Loki can get his hands on all things mysterious and are possibly linked into helping him back into Asgard.
They meet Daidouji Mayura, who just loves mystery and would go to great lengths to check it out, often getting herself into trouble as well. After rescuing her from an evil doll, Mayura joins Loki and Yamino in her own quest for 'Fushigi mysteries'.
There were a couple of Gods sent down to destroy Loki, but in the end, they end up enjoying earth themselves. Thor, the God of Thunder and also known as Narugami, loves taking part time jobs (that most of the time involves food @.@). Then there's Freyr, who not only has a thing for Taiyaki and the cheap sales, he also falls head over heels with Mayura and calls her 'Yamato Nadeshiko'. He also has a pig called Gullinbursti which not only provides the laugh, but the pig can fly! Eat that all you people who use that statement 'Only when pigs fly!'.
Heimdall is the only one keen enough to kill Loki (reasons are revealed in the later episodes). Teamed up with Freyr, he tries to kill Loki but not only does Loki succeed in overcoming this, but Freyr (and Gullinbursti :p) tends to get in the way. Most of the time, he's worrying about trying to get something decent to eat (since Freyr spends all of their money).
Look out for Reiya, for she's not all what she seems. And also look out for the 3 Gods of Norns who were also sent to kill Loki.
Like every other anime, this anime gains points thanks to their characters. Loki's really hot (can't imagine the amount of times I squealed like a fangirl watching Loki in action) and the main mystery in this anime is actually Loki himself. Look out for a lot of surprises and plot twists when it comes to this God of tricks.
Story-wise, this anime isn't really that spectacular. Sure, there some funny episodes and really serious episodes, but there are a few flaws. For one thing, Mayura's ALWAYS getting into trouble and plays victim too many times for my liking. Yet in the end she still doesn't understand much about the mystery around Loki. And yes, Mayura's consistent 'Fushigi Mystery!' can get to you after a while.
Then there's the mystery revolving around Loki. As much as most of it is revealed at the last few episodes of this anime, it still isn't enough to answer most of the questions, which leaves this anime begging for another season (which I heard, sin't going to happen... ;_;).
And there should be a lot more character development. I'd like to see more on Heimdall! @.@
But I guess there was one good point about the anime, in which it shows how important it is to be together. @.@ Watch it, and you may understand.
The music's really good. The opening 'Rakuen no tobira' and the ending 'Believe in Heaven' really puts you into the mood and it has one of the best sequence I've seen in a while. BGM is also great! I love the tune where Loki calls out his wand.
So, if you're free and would like a fun anime to watch, this can definitely do the trick. Watch it, but don't expect too much.
Until then, I'll stick to squealing at Loki. ^^ And reading fanfiction.
God bless!
