The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi

The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi

I finally managed to watch Suzumiya Haruhi with much interest. I remember when I first heard about this anime, I doubted that I would truly enjoy it. Not only was the story vague to me, the only thing that I really know about this anime was that the episodes were purposely mixed up. For example, the first episode we watch is actually episode 11.

I must admit, I did not want to watch it. But after being advised from a friend that it was really good... I thought, what the heck and began downloading.

To my surprise, I got hooked on the 1st episode itself. @_@ It got slow a bit in the middle and somewhere at the end the pace quickened and it just ended before you even realize what's really going on.

One thing I like about this anime is the great, great graphics. I have to admit, it's rare to see anime characters dance and to see their nice flow of movements. So just watching the ending scene was enough to keep me interested.

The music is good, especially if it's your taste. It took some getting used to on my part but yeah... it turned out to be pretty good as well. Haruhi (the main character) sings a couple of songs which are quite good as well.

It takes a while to like some of the characters and connect to them, most likely because the you're so tied up trying to catch up with the story, that the characters just seem like a minority. It's not to say that they're not likeable, they definitely are... but I guess this anime made me more interested in the story rather than the characters. Which is rare... That said, Yuki Nagato (the girl with the gray hair) rocks. ^^

Would I advice people to watch this anime? Yes, but if you have the spare time and patience. I don't know about you guys... but it takes quite some time to enjoy an anime that doesn't flow very well, yet it still tells the story well.

Now watching
Demashitaa! Powerpuff Girls Z

Powerpuff Girls Z

Yes, this is the anime version of Powerpuff Girls. I never really liked the Powerpuff Girls but I always found it entertaining anyway. And seeing as I love mahou shoujo and was extremely curious about this anime, I gave it a try.

So many comments about how it sucks... and yet I seem to love this anime a lot. People said the opening was irritating, but it actually got stuck in my head and even the ending song is quite nice.

Ok, so this isn't exactly like the powerpuff girls who just look like anime. This is a new story all together, just following certain facts about the Powerpuff Girls. Believe it or not, in Powerpuff Girls Z the girls are not sisters and were not created by sugar, spice and everything nice together with Chemical X.

In fact, they were created by Chemical Z, which was originally Chemical X until a daifuku fell into it. ^^;;;

The girls are actually normal 13 year olds until they get hit by Chemical Z where they transform into the Powerpuff Girls. Strangely enough, even the evil characters were created by Chemical Z.

I don't know about you guys, but I actually prefer this kind of story than the original one. But then again, it could be because I've always loved anime, mahou shojou and the cool transformations.

I've only watched until episode 5 and found it to be ok. It takes some time getting used to it especially if you're a fan of the original Powerpuff Girls.

But for me, I'm enjoying this anime as brainless fun. Lol! I'll say more once this anime's done.

Rant

Waah... I've been waiting for subs since last week. Are the fansubs having problems? I wanna watch Ouran!

New layout!

Yeah, I'm still into the Ouran craze. Can you blame me? Lol!

My thoughts about KuroFye

I'm kinda iffy about this pairing. In truth I do like them but it's just so hard for me to see them as canon for some reason. I don't understand it myself and am wondering what's wrong with me. I have no problems with shounen-ai, and I have loved some yaoi couplings before... but for some reason, it's hard for me to accept KuroFye as a pairing.

While the KuroFye fans are screaming about the latest chapter because it shows more KuroFye-ness and they claim that this makes it canon, I'm sceptical and thinking, "No... this can't be canon."

My reason? In my head Kurogane is just being Kurogane... he's just saving Fye the same way he would for probably Syaoran and Sakura. To me, circumstance always made it Kurogane had to be with Fye.... now to some people, this is fated and that this means Kurogane was meant to be with Fye. But sadly I'm sceptical... and I want more proof than this. I don't really feel that much chemistry as I was between Touya and Yukito from CCS... now THERE I knew Touya and Yukito were canon... but I don't know why I'm sceptical about KuroFye.

Bleh... I'm just being a spoilsport and not enjoying the KuroFye craze. One thing's for sure, I'm not going to stop reading Tsubasa if Kurogane or Fye dies, I'm more interested in the story. Heck, even if Syaoran dies (-____-) I'd still want to continue reading. Three years of following this series, I want more than just to stop after a character's death. There should be a reason for their death and hopefully, it will make Tsubasa memorable in a way.

I still love Tsubasa... after all these years.

Now it's just my thoughts about KuroFye that needs help... >_>

Ouran AMVs

I can't believe the amount of great anime music videos around Ouran that I found! So many great creative people out there... -___- Anyway, I'm going to share some with you:

Ouran High School Host Club AMV - A Formal Invitation

A great music video to welcome fans and non-fans into the world of Ouran. ^^

So In Love With Two - Hikaru/Haruhi/Kaoru

A music video that couples the twins and Haruhi. Nicely done and it just makes you think like this coupling is possible, and it even feels like it happened!

Kyoya's gonna have a Good Day

A good AMV about Kyouya. ^^

Ouran Host Club: PROMISE

Probably my favourite out of the many Tamaki+Haruhi AMVs...

There... I have a lot to share but that's about it for now. Shall post more soon, I suppose? ^^

Take care and God bless!

Okkii na yume suki desho? ^^

So now I'm going to add watching The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi to the list of animes I'm watching after being influenced by a number of factors and people. Such a weird anime... the episodes are all messed up. As much as it bothers me a little, if I look at it in another perspective... it actually suits the anime quite well. ^^

Oh, and I love the ending sequence. Seeing anime characters dance in such great sequence is such a pleasure cause it's so rare. ^^

So now it's the holidays and I'm even more eager to watch more animes! Plus, I have a lot of plans during this holidays. I really want to make the best out of it!

So after almost 3 years of following Tsubasa, the truth about Syaoran has finally been revealed. @___@ CLAMP is amazing... and evil at the same time. Seriously, very few saw it coming... and the fact that it's finally revealed has shocked many, together with the way Syaoran is acting right now. >_< I love the manga...

As for the anime, what's with the amount of fillers? It really bothers me... though I heard one filler is really good in an amusing sense. Still... >_> The animation at times just seems to be really really bad. Why's the anime so bad? @_@

xxxHolic is amazing! I love Production I.G. They never cease to amaze me... though I admit, Bee Train does a better job on Yuuko though. Still... >_> at least the story line is better.

Ouran High School Host Club, though certain episodes were a tad boring, is still going strong in my favourite animes list. Definitely a really good anime. ^^

Bleh... I'll talk more later. Feeling a little tired.

Take care and God bless!

Release!

The coolest video I've seen in such a long while. I loved the first opening for Bleach and to see a CCS version for it... I don't think anything else can make my day. ^^ Lol!!!

I'm finally done watching Rozen Maiden Traumend. Took me longer than I expected but what the heck... My reaction after watching the last episode? "That's it???" Things were getting so much more interesting and by the way it ended... there should be another season. That's right, there should! It'd bring the overall series no justice if they left it hanging like that...

For some reason, there has been no subs lately for Nana... I wonder what's taking so long. And only yesterday did I find out that episode 29 and 30 had finally come out, after a week of absence for episode 29. @__@ Been waiting so long for that... And I've yet to download them. -___- It'll take some time before I do.

As for xxxHolic, I've downloaded the latest subbed episode from Mishicorp but is it me or is the quality pretty bad? Ah well... I'll try to download a better quality of it. We've finally reached the episode where we see Ame awarashi, the flowers and the "lost" girl. I always thought this episode was sweet... but the anime somehow felt really slow paced... (must be because of the rain). And to watch Watanuki as he struggles to thank Doumeki... Lol!!! Always a treat!

Oh and Mishicorp subs made a small mistake... the part where everyone starts calling Watanuki "like a puppy" or something like that, I think they're actually mentioning Nobita from Doraemon (as it was in the manga) cause I'm very sure I heard them mentioning "Nobita" and not "a lost puppy". @_@ Ah well...

Ouran High School Host Club is the best anime I've ever stumbled into! There's always something to laugh about in each episode! And the concept of the story... let's just say I watched it without even knowing what I was getting into... and gosh, it was worth it finding out the storyline yourself! Just to simplify it, the story revolves around these bishounens in High School who are part of the Host Club, where their job is to "entertain" the girls. Then comes along Haruhi, who is poor and only got into the school through scholarship, who accidentally stumbles into the club... and that's when all chaos starts. ^^

I truly recommend this anime. ^^

KDU Anime Cosplay Omatsuri 2006! That's right, my college is having a KDU Cosplay event on the 10th of June and I'm sooo excited about it! Except for the fact that I'm leaving by 2 to help out with my cousin's daughter's birthday party. -___- But ah well... I've never been to an anime event before so no matter what I'm still looking forward to it!

In the mean time, do check out my music blog and support me as I make english version of anime songs! I need a lot of help so if you're willing to lend a hand, please let me know!!!!

Until then... ja mata!

Kyaaa...

I don't know why I haven't been posting a lot lately. It's not that I have nothing to say... rather I don't have the time.

Anime season is here! That's all I have to say with all the latest releases in Japan. So far I've been trying to catch up with xxxHolic, Nana and Tsubasa... which probably my main interest in watching these is because I've read their manga.

So far I'm really impressed with the anime for xxxHolic. Production I.G. did it again! Seriously, this is the sort of anime I would really enjoy together with the manga. Watanuki and Yuuko sounds amazing! And to see everyone else animated... Production I.G. did a really good job there. Story wise, though the order of the story in the manga and the anime differs... I still love it. It reminds me of CCS where the order is also mized up.

The music... (melts) the opening is spectacular. I agree with someone who mentioned that Suga Shikao is destined to sing for xxxHolic. That song is just amazing! (Though the promo video is... >_< I don't suggest watching it.) The ending song is cute... and even though some people may think it doesn't suit the anime, I think it sounds really well. ^^ Cute black Mokona dancing!

My only gripe is... where are the Tsubasa references? Sure, you could still see other CLAMP works in there... but where's Tsubasa? @___@

Moving on to Nana. I first read Nana in the Malay manga magazine called 'Arena Komik'. Due to explicit content, it soon stopped publishing it... but soon enough, I got greatly curious about the manga and began downloading it. The manga is awesome... if you like shoujo that is. Nana isn't really your typical shojou manga, but it does have the same qualities as it. Still, the story of two girls named Nana is definitely popular what with the live action movie out and now the anime. ^^

The anime... I must say... is really good. The music is superb(to be expected since one Nana is a singer) and the animation for the OP and ED sequence... ^^ Just amazing. I have a feeling this anime is going to be long though, since the manga is still going on till now. And I've already watched 5 episodes and so far, the story is still in flashback mode on the two girl's past.

The second season of Tsubasa is out! Now much more fun and fascinating than ever! I still wish Bee Train wasn't doing Tsubasa... but so far, they've done a decent job so it doesn't really matter so much. The OP and ED are a little bit softer than the first season... especially the OP. I didn't quite like the animation for the OP... too many stills. But the ending... now that was definitely a treat. Not only was the song amazing, the still clips are a treat. (Young Fye, anyone? ^^)

Check out my Etc. section to find out what anime I'll be watching soon and such. ^^ Hope you like the new layout.

In the meantime... (waits for Ouran High School Host Club to load)

What makes you an anime fan?

It's been bothering me a lot lately, the continuous battle between dubs and subs. In fact, I'm starting to see this as being crazy. I know that animes are best watched in their original version, but are dubs really as bad as it's been claimed?

If dubs were that bad, I wouldn't have liked Cardcaptor Sakura in which I've never watched the Japanese version until I got my hands on the second movie. If dubs really are that bad, why are dubbing companies continuing to dub them anyway?

So if I were to like these dub versions, does that make me a very bad anime fan?

So what really makes an anime fan? By the looks of it, they must be able to have some understanding of Japanese in their language and culture. They must also be able to converse a little in Japanese like saying the words 'Hai', 'Baka' and 'Kawaii'. They must have a wide collection of animes and it must be expensive or top notch. And they must never... NEVER like dubbed animes.

It's like a sin that dubbed animes exist. I'm reading the newspapers on Sunday and everyone is rooting for subs and not the dubs. What's wrong with dubs? Sure, there are a lot of bad dubs out there. I know Cardcaptors was bad! I heard One Piece was horrible. But what about others like Slayers, Samurai X, Gravitation and many others? Were they really that bad? To me, they kept the story line pretty well. Just because they sound nothing like their Japanese counterparts or because they change the names, all true anime fans are outraged and want these dubs to die.

Sigh... people really need to look at things in a different perspective. Just because of a few bad dubs, the others have already been labelled as bad. I've heard that Chrno Crusade and Full Metal Alchemist was done really well. I think that should count for something...

Dubs don't exist to ruin the original anime. Just like the anime, they're trying to gain more viewers who prefer to watch shows in their own languages. There's also the difference in culture and such, and though Japanese culture may be fascinating, it can be overwhelming. That's why changes are inevitable.

So stop condemning dubs. If it weren't for dubs, there won't be a lot of anime fans out there right now. Me included.

Dub vs. Sub

Ah... the age old question when it comes to watching anime. I bet most of you are thinking I'm mad for even thinking about it. I mean, why bother? I should know that as a strong anime fan, the best way to watch anime is to watch it with subs.

Think about it. Nothing can beat the original voices who brought life to these wonderful characters. Nothing beats the original songs that create the great moods that fit the atmosphere of the anime. Nothing! And as a lot of great anime fans would say, dubbed animes should be ban.

Call me sceptical, or call me a fake anime fan, but I have no problems with dubs. In fact, sometimes I do prefer watching dubs than subs. And it's not because I'm lazy to read the subtitles, but there's something about dubbed voices that intrigue me.

It's not easy to dub any show. Think about the amount of effort those dubbing companies must've put to re-create the anime for fans to enjoy (If there are fans who would enjoy it). I like to see dubbed work as another work of art, a different type of anime or the same but in a different view. That's why I find it fascinating.

Of course, not all dubs are great. The one which I'll forever hate is Cardcaptors. You see, dubbing an anime is fine for me. But to change everything about the anime that made it unique, that's where it's wrong. Dubbing isn't about making a whole new series. It's to bring what's unique about the anime into words that we who don't know Japanese could understand.

I mean, the reason why Naruto is so popular in Malaysia is because it's dubbed. And now that Shaman King and Prince of Tennis is now dubbed, it's only a matter of time before this show really does get popular.

I have heard these dubs and to be frank, they're really not that bad. I think it could've been worst, but I like it all the same.

I still prefer to get subs though when I buy anime. But I have no problems with dubs. After all, if they didn't dub CCS, they would've never aired it on TV and I would've never got the chance to ever watch it and find my greatest love that brought me such joy until today.

So yeah, dubs really aren't that bad. ^^

Take care and God bless.
